Frank Risk was founded in 2008 by Andrew Newman and Rene Swindley. They were armed with a vision to disrupt the traditional approach to insurance.
The founders believed business owners had a right to know what they were paying for, so established a ‘no hidden income’ business model. Clients deserve complete openness, so they can see exactly what we do and assess this against the fees charged. Frank values working with transparency and integrity - acting only for our clients, never the insurance company.
We have offices all over New Zealand, Hamilton, Auckland, Wellington, Morrinsville and Matamata (Frank Agri). Along the way, we’ve had several new shareholders join the team. Jaden Hatwell in 2014, Emma Haugh & David Bradbury in 2016, Stuart Hamilton in 2018, Ashley Mason in 2019 and more recently, Simon Gower & Rufus Dryburgh in 2024. This has increased the overall experience and expertise Frank.
We’re 100% New Zealand Made and compete against a market dominated by international brokers that claim to be ‘New Zealand’s insurance brokers’ and ‘NZ’s Local Insurance Brokers’, all the while repatriating huge profits to their head offices in Illinois, Sydney, NYC & London etc.
Frank always takes the time to gain an understanding of our client’s businesses and build a risk management programme that is best suited to them and their goals. Clients are encouraged to look at risk management in a broader context and consider other factors such as business continuity planning. It's good business sense.
In 2024, we strengthened our team by formalising a strategic partnership with Leelee & Gower Insurance Partners to enhance risk management services for our clients, bringing together general insurance and expertise in life, health and disability insurance. The Frank team has worked closely with the Leelee & Gower team for years, and their ability to secure better coverage, achieve significant cost savings and successfully resolve complex claims was unmatched. This partnership ensures our clients have access to a total insurance solution covering all facets of risk management with the same high standards of service and expertise.
Insurance claims are an area where we set a higher standard in the industry - we've had claims paid when a previous broker thought ‘all was lost’. Looking at things from a client’s point of view, and having as much policy knowledge as the insurer makes the difference. We have a reputation with insurers for fighting hard on behalf of our clients. No compromising.

We’re proud that the industry has recognised our achievements on a number of occasions - in 2016 & 2017 we were awarded the NZ Small - Medium Broker of the Year at the annual Australia & NZ Institute of Insurance & Finance awards. In 2017, Loss Management International awarded the Phoenix Award in recognition of the exceptional claims support provided to one of our clients following a major fire at their premises & Insurance Business New Zealand awarded Frank “Top Insurance Workplace” in 2020, 2023 & 2024. While we’re proud to have received industry recognition over the years, what truly defines us is the calibre of our people.
